Virtual Laboratory on Demand

While grid computing lets researchers access equipment remotely, there is no way to monitor what's happening locally. The Virtual Laboratory (VLAB) project is a framework to enable end users to directly access and monitor usage of grid resources (workflow, accounting, job prioritization), particularly remote, expensive instrumentation, such as in chemistry (spectrometer), radio astronomy (radio telescope) and medicine (CAT scanner).

At iGrid, VLAB is used to run remote instruments in Poland _ spectrometers and a radio telescope _ and real-time visualization and video stream feedback is sent to San Diego to provide feedback to local users.
