Qwest Communications Provides Bandwidth Support for iGrid 2005

Denver, CO, October 4, 2005 - Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) today announced that it provided very high-speed connectivity last week for International Grid (iGrid) 2005, a triennial workshop event organized by the high-performance computing research community to bring together the brightest individuals in applications, middleware and networking. Qwest provided a 10 gigabits per second circuit allowing iGrid to showcase international grid computing using advanced networks.

iGrid 2005 was a coordinated effort to accelerate the use of multi-10Gb international and national networks, to advance scientific research, and to educate decision makers, academicians and industry researchers on the benefits of these hybrid networks. This year, iGrid showcased more than four-dozen real-time application demonstrations from 20 countries, as well as a symposium with 25 lectures, panels and master classes on the applications, middleware, and underlying cyber-infrastructure.

The 10Gb Qwest link provided at iGrid 2005 ran from Chicago to Los Angeles and provided the key long-haul USA link for several demonstrations at the workshop. Specifically, the Qwest link provided support for the following key demonstrations:
